I'm wondering if Joaquin has a case of baby eczema.
He got a little rash on his chin a couple weeks ago and I had our pediatrician look at it and she said it was from his drooling.
Then, I tried a new fruit...pineapple and at the same time started using wipes to wipe of his face after his meals and the rash spread to above his lip and on the sides of his cheek.
So...thinking it was a food or contact allergy,I have been feeding him mostly apples, rice and sweet potatoes for a couple days to see if it would clear. Unfortunately it is still the same, if not worse. He wakes up and it's mostly clear but within a couple hours of being awake, it gets quite inflamed, red and is looking dry and cracked by the end of the day.
My baby boy's beautiful skin is no longer. Any advice? None of my kids have ever had eczema and I know how brutal it can be so I'm really worried.

poor guy. Have you tried "Aquaphor?" -I think that's how you spell it. It's like a THICK vaseline but it clears up a lot of issues for us.
Hi Jennifer,
My son Charlie suffers from eczema. He's had it since he was a baby. When it's really inflamed, we use a mild hydrocortisone cream, like one from Aveeno, twic a day. But throughout the day, I would use a heavy cream. Walmart's brand "Equate" has a great cream to put on it, it's in a jar called "Dry skin cream". Those two work like magic. The cortisone cream should clear up the redness almost overnight.
HTH!
We have battled excema with my eldest for years now. Not extreme, but can be all over his body and of course itchy. I have used all lotions and potions, but now use lots of moisuriser to keep the skin moist and supple, fish oil supplements to do the same internally, sensitive washing powder, nothing or oil in the bath, and steroid cream from time to time to settle down bad patches. I use Vaseline Intensive Care lotion for extremely dry skin, or the Mustela Stelatopia range. They are by far and away the best. Using moisturisers and trying to keep face washing to a minimum as water is very drying. Good luck! I don't adjust his food as I think it could be dairy, and he is only mild to moderate in symptoms and will probably grow out of it. Luke has some on his chin too, so he gets the same treatment :)
My son Andrew had a very bad case of eczema, it was all around his cheek and eye. The only thing that worked was hydro cortizone cream. We had to get a prescription for2%. You could try the 1% over the counter first, it will probably help if it is eczema and won't hurt if it's not.
Joel gets eczema on his face in the winter. The pharmacist here recommended putting Vaseline on his face and then a special cream called Prevex over top. I put it on before he has his nap and at night before he goes to sleep. If it is really bad I put it on at every diaper change. It seems to help!
My 3 year old had eczema as a baby and would get a rash from baby wipes on his face. I think the alcohol irritated his skin. He also got spots in his legs, chest and back after bathing a lot in a week. We just stopped using wipes on his face andbathed him only a few times a week and that worked. He doesn't have problems with it now that he is older. I wonder if his could be allergy/food sensitivity related.
My 3 yr old gets eczema on her bum and tummy, sometimes in the creases of her elbows and behind her knees. We have a prescription that clears it up overnight. Our pediatrician said you have to treat all 3 symptoms - itch, swelling, and redness - that's why a regular lotion won't do the trick.
Oh I am hoping it clears up from your little cuties face. My daughter did have eczema for a while. You can treat it naturally by using fish oils internally like Mel mentioned. I also used Emu oil on her face to clear it up. It is related to food allergies and oils in the body. Also probiotics works to. You can do all these together. Ask at your local health food store. Best of luck and hoping it clears up.
My kids get a lot of this contact/food reaction stuff on their faces. I use Aquafor. It is persistent ... Keep using whatever topical cream you decide on daily, until it is 100% gone ... Otherwise, at least for my guys, it comes back worse than before ...
I hope these little star would fight against this no curable skin diseases and very soon beat this.
Good information about baby Eczema. Thanks a lot for this awesome information.
