Mateo...An Old Soul
I heard the sweetest words from our little four year old Mateo the other day. It was one of THOSE days. A day when lots of thing went wrong. Stroller smashed into my car (no babies in it...thank goodness!), purse rolled off the top of the stroller into a filthy, murky, wet ditch (as a result of the stroller smashing into my car), stroller gets quickly relocated only to roll through some old...yikes!!!...vomit (or so it looked like). BLECH!!!! I'm quietly dealing with all of this while trying to unload Mateo, Joaquin and Joey out of the minivan in order to get to a Speech Therapy appointment on time in Midtown. I usually have it down to a science but this particular day was a circus act.
Then, in the quietest of voices and from behind me, Mateo is standing on the sidewalk apparently watching all of this unfold and understanding my desperation he says to me....
"Mom, I wish I was a grown up, so I could help you."
My heart immediately melted into a puddle on the cement. My sweet, soulful, gentle Teo. I immediately hugged him and told him how those words were the kindest words I had ever heard him say.
I love you Mateo, my sweet old soul.

Precious words from a sweet boy...
Whew, tears here! Mateo is such a wise old soul. I'll bet he's going to surprise you in amazing ways as Joaquin gets older. Love the shirt for Joaquin, too. Soooo sweet! Let's get together soon!
What a sweetheart! I love when our kids notice things aren't as easy as would like and have a desire to help!
Love that boy! Might just have to steal him for a weekend. Steve could get his boy fix :)
So sweet. I bet that did make everything better.
What a sweet story, and boy. Brought tears to my eyes.
Just makes my heart melt. He's so in tune with you...
can you believe how observant our kids can be? that is the sweetest thing mateo said to you! so sorry for you - having one of "those days" is NO FUN! hopefully the rest of your week is going better :)
also - my brother and sister-in-law are moving to Germany for my brother's post-doc on August 6th and we are having a going away party on August 1st, so I am sorry I won't be able to come meet you, Monica, Lisa and many other great people I have "met" through our blogs... I am especially sorry I won't meet my future son-in-law... we will have to find another way and another time to meet in person :) if only Sacramento were driving distance from Indianapolis...
